Axis works the second you open it. There's no setup screen, no account wall, and nothing to configure before your first workout.
You're ready to train right away
When you first open the app you land on the Today tab. Axis has already loaded a full exercise library and a starter program called Push / Pull / Legs, so you can start a workout immediately. It also pins three lifts (Back Squat, Barbell Bench Press, and Deadlift) so your PR charts have something to track from day one.
You do not need an account to use any of this. An account only backs up your data and syncs it across devices, which is covered in the next guide.
The six tabs
Everything in Axis lives under six tabs along the bottom:
- Today: your day at a glance, with today's workout, meals still to log, your habits, and this week's numbers.
- Train: your programs and workouts. You start a session and log your sets from here.
- Fuel: food logging using hand portions instead of a food database.
- Progress: charts and trends that fill in once you have a few days of data.
- Habits: your daily habits and streaks.
- Profile: your account, membership, settings, and your data.
Your first five minutes
- Open the Train tab. Under the Programs segment you'll see your active Push / Pull / Legs program. Tap into a workout like Push A to see how the sets are laid out.
- Back on the Today tab, tap Start Workout (or Schedule a Workout if it's a rest day) to begin a session.
- Log a set or two so you can see how the app tracks weight, reps, and rest.
- Pop over to Habits and add a habit. It takes two taps.
- When you're ready to back everything up, go to Profile → Account and create a free account.
Everything works offline. You can log a whole workout in airplane mode at the gym. It saves to your phone first, then syncs on its own once you're back online and signed in.
